IEI Instructional Technician
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the IEI Teacher, the IEI Instructional Technician is responsible for the actual administration of the behavioral modification programs to individuals served, either in a clinical or workshop setting. Technicians can be hired either by CSAAC or the family served.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a human services discipline (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, etc.)
Experience: Minimum one (1) year’s experience as an instructional technician either in a work environment or through educational practicum experiences. If hired by a family, incumbent must demonstrate an understanding of what skills are required for the program and possess the ability to render the specific duties listed below to the family’s satisfaction.
Skills: Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, as well as good organizational and coordinative ability. Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise patience, caring and concern in new and sometimes stressful situations. Computer literacy required, with a proficiency in standard business software applications (i.e., word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets).
NATURE AND SCOPE
· Administers behavioral intervention programs as decided upon by the Psychologist, Behavior Management Specialist and/or the treatment team.
· Records in logbook accurate notes and data in appropriate format, tracking child’s performance and progress within instructional and behavioral programs.
· In a clinical setting, attends one weekly, one-hour clinic meeting at CSAAC for each case to which the technician is assigned. Takes proper notes during the meeting and implement changes decided upon during meeting. Demonstrates techniques during meeting and gives and receives feedback.
· In a workshop setting, attends workshop sessions that occur on an ongoing basis every four to six weeks for each case in the homes of families of workshop students. Takes proper notes during the meeting and implements changes decided upon during meeting. Demonstrates techniques during meeting and gives and receives feedback.
· Maintains contact with the IEI Teacher and psychologist/behaviorist regarding difficulties during sessions.
· Conducts data collection for IEI research activities as requested by the Psychologist or the Assistant Director.
REQUIRED TRAINING/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
· Completion and demonstration of techniques taught in the Behavioral Principles and Strategies Training (BPST).
· Successfully complete annual recertification of the BPST.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Employee must be able to effectively complete a non-adverse physical intervention with autistic individuals of varying heights, weights and levels of physical strength according to the guidelines presented in Behavioral Principles and Strategies training.
