Halloween
is a very fun time of year for the children and adults served by
CSAAC. This year’s party for the 130 children and adults in our
residential program was held on Friday, October 26, at CSAAC’s
Community School of Maryland’s gym, and was planned by Janet Knapp,
M.S., CSAAC’s Nutritionist, filling in for Therapeutic Recreation
Coordinator, Tamekia Ford, who sprained her ankle (get well soon,
Tamekia)! We would like to thank volunteers Liz and Marv Jackson of
the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Village for helping decorate the gym
at our Brookeville school campus, and Kiwanis member Glenn Frankel
of J&R Catering for the donation of the delicious cupcakes and
bottled water. Other items on the menu included deviled eggs,
popcorn balls, and tangerines made to look like mini-pumpkins.
Everyone danced to DJ music and had a fabulous time. On Wednesday,
October 31, children in our school program at the Community School
of Maryland also participated in a party and costume contest there.
The winners included Olivia, who won for “Best Overall Costume,”
Meir, who won for “Best Upper School Costume,” and Andrew, who won
for “Best Lower School Costume.” CSAAC regularly seeks volunteers
to help set-up and clean-up after events, as well as donate
pre-packaged food, gifts for individuals, or refreshments. We are in
particular need of simple, plastic-top, 6-foot folding tables. If
you are interested in volunteering, or can donate any items for
recreational events, please contact Jan Miller Vogel, Director of
Support Services, at 240-912-2231.
