CSAAC is the non-profit entity that operates and manages the Community School of Maryland, a licensed, private educational facility that operates classrooms in both public and private schools buildings. School students range between 7 and 21 years old and are served in three (3) programs that provide training in compliance with their Individualized Education Programs, preparing them for inclusion in their communities. The 12-month program is non-graded and provides full day and residential (former Intensity V and VI) Special Education and related services for students with autism.
School facilities are located in Montgomery County, Maryland at 21515 Zion Road (Brookeville), and 919 West University Blvd. Room C-203, Silver Spring (Northwood High School).
Classrooms are licensed by the Montgomery County Department of Health; the educational programs are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education approves; and the residential facilities are approved and licensed by the Developmental Disabilities Administration. The Community School is also a member of Maryland Association of Non-Public Special Education Facilities (MANSEF).
The two (2) sites operated through CSAAC’s school program are: The Community School of Maryland at Northwood High School, which functions within Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. This location features potential inclusion techniques so that our students may have school experiences with their same aged peers in a public high school located in Montgomery County. The second school site, Community School of Maryland (Brookeville Campus), located in Brookeville, Maryland, also serves as the main school campus and provides educational services in a brand new instructional facility. Speech-language and occupational therapy services are provided at all three school locations.
The Community School of Maryland at Northwood High School is also a 365-day per year non-graded residential program and a non-graded 12-month day program for male and female adolescents, ages 14-21. The school provides full day (Intensity V) and residential (Intensity VI) Special Education and related services to students with autism. One of the goals of this program is to provide inclusion opportunities for students so they can be with their high school aged peers.
The Community School of Maryland (Brookeville Campus) site provides services for children ages 7-21. There are four classrooms at the Brookeville campus each with a capacity of six students. Related services are provided on site and often in the community, and the facility has substantial grounds for exploration and play. We consider this program our state-of-the-art model for future growth as an educational institution. The campus is in a beautiful, rural atmosphere, surrounded by farms- our students have the opportunity to also engage in therapeutic horseback riding.
